The Centre’s library
The Folklore Centre’s library is housed in the Surgeon’s House in the Fortress of Mont'Alfonso in Castelnuovo Garfagnana, the current headquarters of the Folklore Centre. The library’s main collection comprises the “Folklore Centre Booklets”, which are the product of many years of work by the Centre; also available are many specialist publications otherwise difficult to find. These include various series of Italian and international magazines devoted to the folklore sector. There are around 1,300 bibliography entries and 1,500 volumes in total. The library also contains facsimiles of antique books. The Centre has a collection of videos of folklore events (such as May Day celebrations, religious events, gypsy traditions) and ethnographic documentaries on typical traditional activities (iron working in the Serchio Valley, bread making, spinning and weaving in Garfagnana, etc).
